Responsibilities

Contentious matter support

  • Review and carry out basic analysis of claim documents, especially quantum claims.
  • Prepare, compile or review claim supporting documents and prepare basic narratives of claims under instructions of Solicitors.
  • Prepare and present quantum claims in legal documentation.
  • Prepare basic draft letters and other correspondence in ongoing dispute matters.
  • Collate, organise and manage claim documents in a logical and efficient manner.
  • If and when required, attend hearings and site inspections with and provide support to Solicitors.

Non-contentious matter support

  • Review basic contract documents (e.g. conditions of contract) under instructions of Solicitors.
  • Support Solicitors in handling contractual issues in ongoing construction matters.
  • Prepare draft letters and other correspondence and basic agreements in ongoing construction matters.

Other supporting duties

  • Conduct basic legal research and support Solicitors in legal analysis tasks.
  • Proofreading and translation work.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as required.

 

Qualification / Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • University Degree with exposure to legal studies.
  • Professional qualification such as HKIS, MRICS or equivalent is preferred.

Experience and attributes:

  • Dispute Resolution paralegal experience in a sizable law firm is required.
  • Prior quantity surveyor or claims consultancy experience is advantageous.
  • Solid experience in claims handling in construction contracts.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to details.
  • Hardworking, self-motivated and able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Mandarin).
  • Good computer skills (especially in MS Word & Excel and other common document management tools used in sizeable law firms).
